Fixtures, automation cells, special-purpose machines. What has to be true at the end is not a specification sheet — it is a takt time, a yield and a test that proves both. So this line is not quoted from a form.
Four questions decide the whole project. We ask them first.
Most non-standard projects that go wrong did not go wrong in the drawing. They went wrong because nobody wrote down what the machine had to do. These are the four answers we need before anyone opens CAD.
Who does what, written down before anyone argues.
A non-standard project fails at the seams, not in the middle. These are the seams. Everything below is agreed in writing at gate G1, and it is what the contract is built on.

Four gates. Nothing moves until you say so.
- G0 Clarification review We restate your requirement in writing and list what is still undefined. Free, 48 hours, and it is the step that decides whether we are a fit.
- G1 Concept & cycle-time review Layout, cycle-time calculation, budget band and the long-lead list. You approve the concept before any detailed design is paid for.
- G2 Design freeze Drawings and BOM signed off. After this date, every change goes through a written change request with a cost and a schedule impact attached.
- G3 FAT, then SAT It passes against your Q2 criteria on our floor, then it passes again on yours. Both protocols are signed, and both are yours to keep.
A supplier who never says no is a supplier you cannot plan around.
A quick price for a machine that cannot hit your takt time is worse than no price. These are the projects we turn down, and we would rather tell you at G0 than at FAT.
- No acceptance test, no project. If nobody can name the measurement that proves it works, the project has no finish line and will absorb both budgets.
- No budget band, no concept work. We will name a range. If that range is above your ceiling, stopping now costs you nothing — that is the point of the 48-hour review.
- No fixed price on an undefined scope. A fixed number for a vague requirement is a number that gets renegotiated at month three. We quote G1 as a paid study and credit it against the build.
- No compliance mark we cannot support. If you need CE, UL or a customer-specific standard, say so at G0 — it changes the design, the BOM and the price, and that is fine.

Answer as much as you can and leave the rest blank — a blank is information too. If you have a sketch, a photo of the current station or a cycle-time spreadsheet, mention it and we will ask for it.
